Applications for LIHEAP are now being accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funds to help cover the cost of heating their home this winter.

LIHEAP grants help residents with limited or fixed incomes pay their heating bills, repair or replace a heater, avoid utility service shut off, and assist in restoring a terminated service. LIHEAP grants do not need to be repaid.

To qualify for LIHEAP funds, a customer must provide proof of income, a recent heating bill, and name, birth date and Social Security number for each person in the household.

Income eligibility for LIHEAP is:

One person in household, annual income limit, $16,755; two, $22.695; three, $28,635; four, $34,575; five, $40,515; six, $46,455; seven, $52,395; eight, $58,335; nine, $64,275, and 10, $70,215.

To apply online, visit COMPASS (http://www.compass.state.pa.us/) website and fill an online application.

To apply for the program in person, visit your county assistance office.

• Lehigh County Assistance Office, 555 Union Blvd., Suite 3, Allentown.

• Monroe County Assistance Office, 1972 W. Main Street, Suite 101, Stroudsburg.

• Northampton County Assistance Office, 201 Larry Holmes Drive, Easton.

• Schuylkill County Assistance Office, 2640 Woodglen Road, Pottsville.

You can also apply for LIHEAP through fax or mail. In order to do that, you will have to download an application and complete it. Once completed, you will have to send it to local county office.
