Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 24 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 43 members in attendance. President Bill Morrison conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading “An Autumn Twilight.”

Pauline Fenstermacher and Dolly Schuetrumpf were added to the sick list.

Joan Breslin of the Schuylkill Transportation System, spoke to the group about the countywide public transportation system, which was created in 1981. She offered tips on using the service to the seniors’ best advantage.

Upcoming events were discussed, including a Nov. 13 trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre; Dec. 12, Christmas party at Capriotti’s in McAdoo. Nov. 14 is the deadline to sign up for the Christmas party.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.

The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army’s Older and Bolder group meets at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Salvation Army. The group also participates in additional activities throughout the fall/winter session.

The next meeting will be Nov. 8 and will include a visit from representatives of the Ruth Steinert SPCA.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Cub and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m., deadline for December/January newsletter; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Next week’s activities will include: Tuesday, fundraising committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, OWLS meet at noon, consistory meets at 6:30 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this All Saints Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service, with Holy Communion, in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m., Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m., final day to order pumpkin rolls.

Activities for next week include: Monday, worship and music committee meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.
