A look back: October 31, 1957

Apparently annoyed because he lost a grouse “the hard way” while hunting yesterday, John Searfoss, 114 Silk St., Jim Thorpe, snared a one and a half pound bird the “easy way” while en route home from Marzen’s Store at 11:30 a.m. today.

John brought a nice-looking bird down yesterday but the fowl fell in dense brush, making it impossible to recover it.

Today, it was a “once in a lifetime” incident as he spotted the grouse trying to get through a picket fence on Fern Street to the rear of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He simply reached down and captured the bird. It was as easy as that.
