Traffic stops lead to DUI-drug charges

State police at the Lehighton barracks reported on the following drug-related charges.

• A 22-year-old Effort man is being charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance as a result of a traffic stop made at 11:01 p.m. Sept. 15 in the 2300 block of Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Police said that upon making the stop, they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and the driver showed signs of impairment.

• A 32-year-old woman from Towamensing Township is facing drug-related charges as the result of a traffic stop made by state police at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Spruce Hollow Road and Sei Pike Lane in Towamensing Township.

Police said she was stopped for a Motor Vehicle Code violation. It was determined she was driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charges are pending the result of laboratory tests.
