A look back: October 24, 1979

A partisan crowd of about 150 people attended a meeting of the Lehighton Borough Council last night and discussed the possibility of the Bavarian Festival locating at the Lehighton Fairgrounds.

A show of hands indicated that opposition to the festival was unanimous by those in attendance.

However, attorney Marianne Lavelle, solicitor for borough council, told the audience strong public sentiment against such a festival won’t necessarily keep it out.

She said the final decision rests with the 18 members of the Carbon County Agricultural Association board of directors. The association is a private, nonprofit corporation.
