Mahoning Township Police report incidents

Mahoning Township Police reported the following incidents:

• On Oct. 12 at 12:05 p.m., police attempted to stop a wanted man walking on North First Street in Lehighton. Kyle Kubin, 33, eluded officers by fleeing into a wooded area. During the chase police seized 40 bags of suspected heroin that had been tossed to the ground. Kyle was later apprehended as he left the basement of a home in the 700 block of North First St. Kubin was placed in Carbon County Correctional Facility on the warrant. He is being charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanors).

• A resident of Suffolk, Virginia, reported he received a call from a man identifying himself as his grandson on Aug. 30. The caller said he had been arrested and needed bail money. The victim sent $2,200 by money order and later found out he had been scammed by an unidentified man. The money order was picked up in Mahoning Township.

• On Aug. 14, a woman reported she was the victim of fraud. The woman sent $550 in a wire transfer and the receiving person did not comply with the agreement. The woman reported the money was picked up in Ohio, and eventually went to Africa.

• On Aug. 23, a Star PD .45 caliber handgun was reported stolen from a residence in the Lower Nis Hollow Trailer Park.
