Tamaqua crash ends in arrest

A Newkirk man, riding a gas-powered bicycle, crashed into a car on Oct. 7 in Tamaqua, then ended up in the Schuylkill County prison thanks to an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest.

Joseph Triano, 26, was riding the motorized bicycle east on Cottage Avenue when he entered Hunter Street, striking a northbound 2001 Chrysler operated by John Berger. No one was injured, but a records check showed a warrant for Triano.

While taking him into custody officers found a brass pipe containing marijuana residue in Triano’s bike packs.

He was transported to the county prison on the warrant and faces an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Chrysler sustained moderate damage on the driver’s side.
