Tamaqua column for Oct. 18

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 50 members in attendance. President Bill Morrison conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading “Blue Skies and Rainbows.”

Paul Randig and Merle Andescavage were added to the sick list. Doris Yeager and Mary Taylor were welcomed back after being ill.

Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman was the guest speaking, sharing information on fraud and scams targeting the elderly and providing tips to avoid getting caught up in them.

Carol Sedlak was congratulated on celebrating her birthday.

The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 12 at Capriotti’s in McAdoo.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on Friday at the Tamaqua YMCA.

Anyone 17 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood.

Preregistered donors are now able to streamline the process a bit by completing the pre-donation reading and health history online before heading to the Bloodmobile. Visit www.RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass on the day of your scheduled visit.

Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 24. The meeting will include an anniversary celebration with a catered dinner and entertainment.

New members are always welcome.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Harvest Home services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the scenic Sunday group will visit the Lehigh Canal at 1:30 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Apostle’s Creed growth group meets at 1 p.m., celebrate Recovery is at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, sisters growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, prayer gathering at 9 a.m., Celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m., TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., PRC meets at 7 p.m. at Tink’s Antiques; Thursday, membership matters meets at 6 p.m., worship team meets at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 8 p.m.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Phillip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an informal devotional and singalong will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The next prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Pumpkin carving night will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. Pumpkins will be provided. Bring your own tools and a snack to share. The public is welcome to attend.
