Lehighton man charged with raping 8-year-old girl

A Lehighton man accused of the rape of an 8-year-old girl is scheduled to appear in court.

Eric Eidem, 43, faces charges on one count each of rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, incest of a minor under 13 years, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minor, indecent assault.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Brian Shandra of the Pennsylvania State Police:

On Jan. 17, the girl was interviewed at the Scranton Children’s Advocacy Center, the affidavit says.

During the interview, the girl said that Eidem raped her when she was 8 years old.

The victim said that while her mother was at work, she was lying in her bed reading a book when she heard her door creek open, and Eidem walked in and sexually assaulted her.

Eidem is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.

He remains free in lieu of $50,000 10 percent bail.
