Carbon will hold public hearing regarding ESG grant application

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Thursday during the board’s 10:30 a.m. meeting in the Courthouse Annex, Jim Thorpe, to give the public the opportunity to comment on the commissioners’ consideration of filing a 2017 Emergency Solutions Grant application with the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.

The ESG program allows local governments to apply for funding on behalf of nonprofit organizations which will perform services as a subcontractor with the county. Carbon plans to apply for grant application totaling $90,000, including $45,000 for both the Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services and Family Promise of Carbon County.

Examples of allowable services provided in the ESG program are rapid rehousing, homeless prevention, and operation and essential services related to emergency shelters.

Each of the two subcontractors named in the county’s proposed application will provide distinct services while ensuring there will be no duplication of services between the two, as per DCED guidelines, as well as providing the dollar for dollar match for their portion of the grant.

Expected to be on hand to discuss their respective programs’ initiative are Kimberley Miller of the Action Committee and Hannah Bartron of Family Promise.

The public is invited to comment on the proposed grant application.
