Local sports roundup: games of Oct. 16

Tamaqua’s boys soccer team closed regular season play with an exciting win over Catasauqua on Monday.

BOYS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Tamaqua

Derian Stianche’s scored the game-winning goal with four seconds left in the second overtime to lift Tamaqua to a 4-3 non-conference victory over Catasauqua.

Stianche drew a push in the back while in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. The Blue Raider converted to give his team the win.

Tyler Steigerwalt, Jacob Rudy, and Michael Schlanta also scored goals for Tamaqua, while Stianche, Ian Davis, and Nathaniel Noftz added assists.

The Blue Raiders finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots.

Steven Ritter scored all three goals for Catty.

The JV contest ended in a 1-1 tie.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

Southern Lehigh capped the Colonial League regular season undefeated with a 25-7, 25-7, 25-5 victory over Palmerton.

Alexis Williams paced the Spartans with 13 assists, three aces and two kills, while Cortney Kylish added 12 aces and three kills. Mackenzie Feight contributed six kills, and Sela Herber added five kills and 10 assists.

Southern Lehigh also won the JV match 25-9, 25-7.

Tamaqua-Weatherly

Tamaqua edged Weatherly for a 30-23 victory.

Trenyce Wingler finished with a team-high 13 points for the Blue Raiders, while Zoe Seltzer ended up with seven.

Pleban paced the Wreckers with 13.
