State police in Schuylkill County report on incidents

State police in Schuylkill County have reported on the following incidents.

• A deer was the cause of a crash along Interstate 81 in Delano Township, Schuylkill County, that occurred at 7:12 p.m. on Oct 8. State police at Frackville said Roman Lupasco, 41, of Gatineau, Québec, Canada, was driving a 2017 Honda CRZ northbound when the deer entered the road in front of him. He swerved to avoid the animal, but could not and struck it. Air bags were deployed. Lupasco and his passenger, a 13-year-old boy, same address, were not injured. The Honda had to be towed from the scene.

• State police at Schuylkill Haven said a Stihl chop saw K420 was removed from the bed of a pickup parked to the rear of a residence along South Tulpehocken Street in Pine Grove. The theft was discovered around 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 8. Troopers did not identity the victim of the theft.

• A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after he fled a crash scene. State police at Frackville said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday along Condor Lane, at the intersection with Route 901 in Cass Township. Troopers said Mark Homa, 18, of Minersville, was operating a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup, which was modified for off-road use only. He was headed eastbound and approaching the intersection with 901. Homa attempted to stop at a posted stop sign but claimed the Ranger suffered brake failure. Homa applied his emergency brake and swerved to the right to avoid entering the busy intersection. The Ranger struck and bent a stop sign. Homa ran off but was later located. He is facing several charges, including driving without a license.

• State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary at a residence along Market Street in Auburn borough. Jewelry and money were taken. The break-in occurred sometime between 5:55 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Thursday. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-754-4600

• A theft occurred at Fair Road and West Deer View Drive, in South Manheim Township. State police at Schuylkill Haven said a Toro 33-ton log splitter was removed from that location sometime between Oct. 6 and 13. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-754-4600.
