Police say man shot daughter’s boyfriend

Police have issued a warrant for a Schuylkill County man who shot his daughter’s boyfriend in the groin Sunday afternoon at a county motel.

State police at Frackville are charging Donald Jenkins Jr., 40, of North White Street, Shenandoah, with attempted homicide, burglary, aggravated and simple assault, possessing instruments of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

Troopers said at 2:49 p.m. they responded to Room 49 at the Motel 6, located at 701 Altamont Blvd., West Mahanoy Township, just outside Frackville, for a reported victim with a gunshot wound to the groin.

Troopers found the victim in the room with his girlfriend. She had rented the room on Saturday and was to check out on Monday. Troopers did not release the names and ages of the victim or his girlfriend.

Troopers learned through the investigation that the victim was sitting on the far bed in the room when his girlfriend’s father, Jenkins, came into the room. An argument began and Jenkins shot the victim in the upper left leg/groin area, according to police.

An ambulance was called and the victim was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Jenkins fled the scene. Troopers said he is possibly in the Shenandoah area.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jenkins is asked to call troopers at 570-874-5300 or the Schuylkill County Communications Center at 911.
