Jim Thorpe sweeps Weatherly in volleyball

The Jim Thorpe volleyball team and the Lehighton field hockey team posted victories on Saturday.

Jim Thorpe ended their regular season with a straight-set win over Weatherly, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20.

Leading the Lady Olympians was Kelsey Carroll with eight aces, nine digs, eight assists and seven kills for the strong all-around showing.

Teammates Mackenzie Rosenberger, Jordan Waselus and Autumn Snyder all added four kills, while Alex McGinley finished with six digs and three aces.

Martz Madness Classic

In the final of the Pottsville Volleyball Invitational, Blue Mountain prevailed in three sets over Garden Spot for the overall title.

In pool play, Panther Valley finished with a perfect 8-0 record to move on from Pool A. Meanwhile, in Pool B, Blue Mountain, Garden Spot and Marian all finished with 6-2 records.

Blue Mountain earned the number one seed by point differential to move on, before Garden Spot and Marian tangled in a tiebreaker set, where Garden Spot won, 15-12.

The Panthers then fell in the semifinals to Garden Spot, 25-15, 25-15.

Panther Valley featured a balanced attack during the day with Jenna Dubosky (19 kills, four blocks); Olivia Dacey (18 kills); Emilee Kwaak (15 kills); Rachelle Filler (10 kills, eight blocks); Erika Dubosky (nine kills, five blocks); and Christina Dacey (seven kills) all contributing at the net. In addition, Jenna Dubosky and Sarah Zabroski had 34 and 27 assists respectively. The top servers for PV were Erika Dubosky (27 points, 10 aces); Olivia Dacey (18 points); Christina Dacey (17 points); Zeborski (17 points); Jenna Dubosky (13 points); and Filer (12 points). Leading the defense were Christina Dacey and Jacqueline Kokinda with 10 digs each.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. Schuy.-Weatherly

North Schuylkill’s Quinn Fisher scored the game’s only goal to give her team its first win of the season, 1-0, over Weatherly.

The Spartans held a 12-1 edge in shots on goal in the non-league matchup.

Frye had 11 saves for the Wreckers, who fell to 0-17 on the year.

Lehighton-Wilson

Wilson edged Lehighton, 2-1, in a non-league game on Friday.

Gaby Vega had both Wilson goals, while Aubrey Blasiak scored for Lehighton.

Julia Frey had 19 saves for the Indians.

Catasauqua-Jim Thorpe

Catasauqua turned a 1-0 lead at halftime into a 3-0 shutout over Jim Thorpe in non-league action.

The tandem of Monae Bullock and Taylor Huth teamed up for 17 saves for the Olympians.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lehighton-Palmerton

Lehighton defeated Palmerton, 4-2, in non-league action.

Sayler Burke and Kailyn Kolnik notched the goals for the Bombers, while Kolnik and Delany Frank added assists.

Northern Lehigh blanked Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 7-0, in a non-league game Thursday.

Jada Mills and Amber Cieri both had three goals for the Bulldogs. Madison Posivak had five assists.
