Bombers get creative with parade floats

Some of Palmerton’s smaller “Bombers” took home a big prize Sunday during the annual Palmerton Halloween parade.

The Palmerton Booster Club 90-pound football team won the judges’ choice overall outstanding large float honor with its “Bombing the Competition” theme.

The plane-shaped float, which featured the team members as aviators, was one of 10 large floats in the four-division parade.

Families lined the streets of Palmerton hoping to snag some early candy in the first of three parade-filled weekends in the area.

“It’s always a treat to come out and see the parade,” said Sandy Martz, who watched along Delaware Avenue, where the judges’ stand and television cameras set up for the action. “I think this was one of the bigger lineups I remember and there was a lot of thought put into these floats.”

Judges’ choice outstanding Palmerton Sports Group large floats went to the Palmerton Booster Club 90-pound cheering squad with its “Cheerleaders in a Candy Store” theme, and the Palmerton Booster Club 110-pound cheering squad with its “Wizard of Oz” theme.

First place in the large floats category went to Palmerton Booster Club’s flag football cheerleaders with their “No Bomber Gets Left Behind” theme, followed by Palmerton Booster Club 110-pound football’s “Surfin Safari High Tide with Bomber Pride,” and Girl Scout Troop 3506’s “Scouting Spirits.”

Honorable mention in large floats went to Towamensing Soccer Club’s “Goalbusters,” Palmerton Youth Wrestling’s “Reeling in the Competition,” and Kory Rabenold Productions’ “Mr. Pickles and the Misfits.”

Judges’ choice for overall outstanding small float was the Palmerton Hungarian Club, which had its parade participants dress up as members of the Addams Family.

Cub Pack 209 received judges’ choice for outstanding small Scout float with its “Embracing 50 years of Scouting Theme.”

First place in small floats went to Palmerton Booster Club’s flag football team with its “The Super Hero Always Wins” theme, followed by Girl Scout Troop 3583’s “Watch Out for Cookie Monster” and Girl Scout Troop 329’s “Zombie Prom.”

Honorable mention in small floats went to Girl Scout Troop 301’s “Nightmare Before Girl Scouts,” Girl Scout Troop 3259’s “Flashback to the ’50s,” Girl Scout Troop 3259’s “Take Me Back to the Candy Land,” Palmerton Booster Club 130-pound cheerleaders’ “Country Cuties,” and Palmerton Booster Club 130-pound football team’s “Winning is Groovy.”

First place for best appearing costumed group went to Brownie Troop 3862 with its “The Galaxy Kids” theme, followed by Junior Troop 3248’s “Girl Scouts Building a Better Future,” and Girl Scout Troop 33416’s “Emojis.”

Honorable mention went to Girl Scout Troop 3215’s “Oh the Places You Can Go With Girl Scouts,” and Boy Scout Troop 20’s “Lumberjack Champs.”

Dance With Kim dancers took home first prize in the best appearing non-costumed group, followed by Palmerton High School cheerleaders and the Palmerton junior varsity cheerleaders.

Palmerton Junior High cheerleaders and Tumble With Denise received honorable mention.

Top honors in the automotive group went to Palmerton Brownie Troop 3590 and its “We Are Hopping Brownies” theme, followed by honorable mention for the Pacemakers and Ronald McDonald charity.

Palmerton’s VFW was voted most patriotic group, followed by Szoke Iron Works.
