A look back: October 16, 1961

The 10-year-old mortgage of the Lansford AMVETS Post Home was burned yesterday afternoon during impressive ceremonies in the home.

The mortgage was burned by Michael Serina, president of the home association, and Joseph Modrick, financial secretary, both past commanders. Presenting the mortgage for burning was Mrs. Frank Babinetz of Lansford and Charles Horowski, new commander for the post.

State Sen. William Scott was the toastmaster. Mayor George Demetriades offered the welcome and Paul Kern of Allentown, state adjutant, offered remarks.

The post was chartered on March 20, 1946, with the dedication of the new $100,000 post home in October 1951.
