Monroe woman gets jail time for incident at park

A Monroe County woman was sentenced to a short prison term in Carbon County court on Thursday after pleading guilty to a charge stemming from an incident at a Carbon County park.

Ashly Renee Smith, 35, of Stroudsburg, pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of the administration of justice for an incident on July 19, 2016, at Beltzville State Park in Towamensing Township.

Park rangers found a camper parked in a restricted area. While speaking with Smith, she denied anyone was inside the camper other than herself. It was learned that David Twaskas was inside and he had an active warrant for his arrest.

She admitted that she knew of the warrant but lied to the officers about his whereabouts.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic sentenced her to serve one to 12 months in prison on the charge. She is currently in the Monroe County Prison serving a 90-day term for a probation violation. Nanovic ruled his sentence would run concurrent with Monroe.

She must also pay court costs of about $1,000.
