Arrest made in bomb threat at high school

An arrest has been made in the bomb threat incident at a Schuylkill County high school.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Ivy Heinly, 18, of Reading, and formerly of Orwigsburg, was charged with leaving a threatening note in a bathroom at the Blue Mountain High School on Oct. 2. The note was found between 10:30 and 11 a.m. She was a student at the school at the time of the incident.

The note stated, “The school is to be blown up on 10/02/17 5th period.”

The discovery of the note forced the evacuation of school personnel and all students. The students were moved to the nearby football stadium.

A check of the bathrooms, classrooms and other areas of the school was conducted by state troopers and school personnel with negative results. Students were then allowed to return to the school around 12:15 p.m.

Heinly was arrested on Thursday on charges of causing or risking a catastrophe, terroristic threats, threat of use of weapons of mass destruction and several other charges.

She was arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post 10 percent of $5,000 bail.
