A look back: October 10, 1959

Genevieve Blatt, secretary of Internal Affairs, today announced the release of 1958 industrial statistics for Carbon County, showing a decrease since 1957 in the number of establishments, employment, payroll and value of production for manufacturing establishments in the county.

The statistics show a decrease in employment of 325 between 1957 and 1958, during which time salaries declined $1,571,800 and the value of production decreased by $18,157,100.

Carbon County’s 100 establishments are distributed among 14 major industry groups. In terms of employment, apparel and related products, primary metal industries and electrical machinery are the largest industries in the county.
