A look back: October 9, 1942

The county commissioners today contributed $2,000 from money budgeted for flood relief to assist the Mauch Chunk Supervisors in reconstructing the Nesquehoning-New Columbus bridge which was badly damaged two weeks ago on the occasion of the heavy rainfall which lashed this region. The bridge crosses the Nesquehoning Creek at Douglas Street.

Attorney Frank X. York, solicitor for the supervisors, conferred with the county board this morning about the appropriation which he termed an “emergency measure.”

It is estimated that complete repairs, including reinforcement of the piers and erection of wing walls, will be approximately $5,000.
