Monroe County continues to save money by moving agencies into 701 Main Street

Earlier this year the county approved a 10-year lease for the Industrial Development Authority to move from a rented space in Mount Pocono to the county-owned 701 Main St. in Stroudsburg. The lease is at a rate of $1 per year.

On Wednesday, the commissioners approved a 10-year lease for the Redevelopment Authority of Monroe County for the same $1 per year rate.

“The county is saving $42,000 a year in rent on the Industrial Development Authority and another $24,000 per year in rent on the Redevelopment Authority,” Vice Commissioner Charles Garris pointed out. “That is a saving of $660,000 over 10 years on just those two leases.”

“We would like to continue to move additional agencies out of the courthouse,” added Commissioner John Christie. “That would eliminate the need to continue to add onto and modify that building.”

In other business, the commissioners approved a request for matching funds in the amount of $160,000 from the Hotel Tax Funds to be paid out over the next two years to the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport’s Northside Expansion Project.

The total cost of the project is projected at $2.5 million over the next two years. Commissioner John Moyer explained that the expansion is needed to better serve the large business in the area such as Pocono Raceway Kalahari Resorts and Mount Airy Casino.

The commissioners also ratified the acceptance of a proposal from MidAtlantic Storage Systems in the amount of $46,667 to replace the roof on the water tower at the correctional facility.

Change orders in the amount of $3,936.65 were approved for Mark Whitehead Electrical to repair lighting and outlets at 701 Main St. A change order in the amount of $1,250 was approved for Bognet Inc. to make changes to the automatic doors at the front entrance.
