A look back: October 5, 1970

A settlement was announced today in Carbon County Court involving 90.43 acres of land in Summit Hill, representing a portion of that taken for the construction of the Mauch Chunk Creek Watershed Reservoir.

Owners of the property are Dr. Russell Miller, Philadelphia, and Harry and Alice Miller, Summit Hill, whose land along the Lentz Trail was taken under an eminent domain proceeding instituted by the Commonwealth of PA, through the state Fish Commission, and the Carbon County Recreation Authority.

The defendants will receive $58,683 while retaining 6.6 acres of their land. A total of 32 properties were acquired and only one of these necessitated a court trial.
