East Penn discusses roads, set social hall committee

East Penn Supervisor Steven Heckman gave residents a monthly road repair report during the Monday night meeting.

He said the Huffman Road drainage issue has been repaired.

“The paths to Marvin Gardens are paved, Summer Mountain Road drainage was taken care of and we repaved the township building parking lot along with Sassafras Road,” he said.

Heckman, roads committee chairman, said the township’s crew is still cutting back grass and weeds throughout East Penn.

“The boom mower is still out. It’s been about halfway around the township. We are winding down the blacktop season and getting ready for the snow plow season unfortunately,” Heckman said.

“The 2018 roads list won’t be ready until the budget is finished,” Chairman William Schwab said.

“We have about six or eight roads to fix,” he said.

The township’s social hall will remain open for rentals and events until June 30 when the board will reevaluate the costs verses benefits of renting the building.

“I think considering the terrific job and comments from the last event, I think we give the current administrator till the end of June to see what she can do,” said Cunfer.

“It’d be a shame to board it up,” she said.

Heckman made a motion for the board to create a two-person committee to help the current administrator with the planning and organization of upcoming events at the hall. “I agree about not closing it down,” he said.

“It’ll go to hell. But we don’t have anyone breaking down the door to rent it, we need more involvement,” he said.

Supervisors Alice Berger and Heckman will be on the new committee for the continued use of the hall.
