A look back: October 3, 1973

The Carbon County Board of Assistance announced attorney Joseph Greco of Nesquehoning will retire after 30 years of service as executive director of the Carbon County Public Welfare.

Greco recently received a certificate signed by Gov. Milton Shapp, Helene Wohlgemuth, state welfare secretary, and the Rev. William T. Longsdorf, county welfare board chairman, congratulating him for his many years of dedicated service. Greco was appointed to the post in July 1943.

The attorney has been practicing law in Carbon County since 1940, being the first lawyer of Italian descent in the county. For a period of time, he served the former Office of Price Administration out of Scranton.
