St. Joseph Regional Academy to hold benefit golf outing

St. Joseph Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe has announced its first-ever golf outing will be held onOct. 1 at the Mahoning Valley Country Club, 323 Country Club Road, Lehighton.

"This is an opportunity to help raise much-needed funds to maintain and operate our school," said Gregory Strubinger, a member of the committee in charge of the event.St. Joseph Regional Academy is one of only two Catholic grade schools remaining in Carbon County and serves as home to youths in kindergarten through eighth grade from not only the Jim Thorpe Area School District, but from other school districts as well."We decided on sponsoring the tournament because of the outstanding generosity of persons, businesses and golfers throughout the region," said committee member Gary Heydt. He and Strubinger said the success of the event depends on golfing participants and sponsors.The outing will begin with registration at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A picnic for participants will follow at 1 p.m., when prizes will be awarded.People interested in golfing in the four-man "scramble" format tournament can contact Strubinger, 570-401-4999, or Heydt, 570-778-8270, or can register by sending their informationto St. Joseph Regional Academy, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.Tee and green sponsorships are also available.
