Results released for DUI checkpoints

The North Central Pennsylvania Regional DUI Enforcement Program has released the following information from recent sobriety checkpoints in Schuylkill County.

• Seven police departments, represented by nine officers, participated in an Aug. 25 checkpoint held in Branch Township. A total of 588 vehicles were stopped, with 27 detained. Three motorists were tested; one was arrested for suspected DUI. Officers issued 16 traffic citations and 12 warnings.• On Sept. 1, a checkpoint was conducted in Frackville. Sixteen officers from nine law enforcement agencies participated, stopping 812 vehicles. Of those, 46 were detained, with five drivers tested for suspected DUI. Two adults were charged with DUI. Officers also issued 22 traffic citations and 13 warnings. Five people were cited for seat belt violations and 7 criminal arrests were made.Two checkpoints were held on Sept. 15, in Cass Township and in Mahanoy Township.• In Mahanoy Township, 10 officers from seven departments were involved in contacting 452 vehicles, detaining 26 vehicles. Two people were cited for DUI, while officers issued 21 traffic citations, two seat belt violations and five warnings.Cass Township's checkpoint was conducted by 11 officers from 11 departments. A total of 568 vehicles were contacted with 33 detained. Five motorists were tested, with two arrested, for suspected DUI. Officers issued 23 traffic citations, three seat belt citations and 12 warnings.Sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through Oct. 2 on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.
