With perfect week, Ford jumps into second in Grid Picks race

The eye behind the camera is now the eye that sees the future of high school football.

Bob Ford leaped over four of his competitors into second place with a 15-0 record in Week Four. Alone at the top of the mountain is Justin Carlucci, who tallied just one loss. Multiple players held their ground to stay in the race, including Pat Matsinko, last year's champ, who lurks behind the leaders.Well, it's official. "Bossman" McCall left me in the dark. Yours truly is dead last after two bad weeks and sits alone in the Pundit Pit. With many weeks to go, I have set a new goal and that is to finish ahead of anyone at all and not be the folly of football fortunes. Watch out TJ Engle and Son. Two more wins than you in Week Five and you can dance in the dark all by your lonesome.Olympians and Raiders to stay unbeatenNo area teams play each other this weekend, but seven are in action. All agree that Jim Thorpe will keep its steam train rolling down the track and make Shenandoah Valley its fifth straight victim of the season. Tamaqua is the overall staff choice over Blue Mountain, but this contest could be the toughest test yet for the Blue Raiders. Northern Lehigh will have to play at its best to notch its first win when the Bulldogs host resurgent Wilson, whose two victories already surpasses its number of wins in the past two seasons. Northwestern is a unanimous favorite to knock off Pen Argyl, while Pleasant Valley is everyone's choice to win its second game in a row.A dozen kicks and a few risky picksKick 12 of this week's match ups off the board with the entire staff in agreement, which means no movement from those selections in the standings. TJ and Son turn against the tide, both figuratively and literally. They like Crestwood, which lost 56-0 last week, to upend Pottsville. Dad and his boy also think Blue Mountain will spoil Tamaqua's run at a perfect season. Risky business ,but that's the usual with weekly picks from father and son.Sam "The Man" Matta is alone with his pick of East Stroudsburg South over Nazareth. Both teams have found the end zone with regularity so the number of points at the end of this game may look more like a basketball score rather than a football final.Swing game to decide the leaderWith so many unanimous choices for this week's schedule, the standings won't change much, but one game will swing our front runners. Ford's future focus sees Easton defeating Whitehall, but Carlucci disagrees. "The Voice" tabs the unbeaten Zephyrs to run over the Rovers. This battle has the potential to be a real barn- burner. Whitehall is averaging a whopping 47 points a game and in Easton's three wins, their defense has allowed opponents just under a six points. If Justin voices victory, he will hold a two game lead next week or an Easton win will swing Ford into a dead even tie at the top.Too tough to callMount Carmel's Red Tornadoes blow into North Schuylkill's stadium on Friday night and this game could be the most difficult pick on the list. Mt. Carmel, with its only one loss coming against perennial playoff powerhouse Southern Columbia, looks to knock out the undefeated Spartans. With a Tornado wind, TJ and Son could be blown back into the Pundit Pit with me. "Bossman" McCall And Matta could creep up the ladder if the Spartans prevail.Looking forward to next week, it's possible that Jim Thorpe, Tamaqua, and Lehighton could be putting undefeated records on the line with challenging road games. Until then, I need a flashlight to help me see. It's dark down here in the Pit.
