Man charged with attempting to kill EMS employee

A Monroe County man has been charged with attempted homicide and related counts for attempting to stab an emergency medical services employee.

On Thursday Pocono Mountain Regional police were called about 3:26 a.m. to assist an EMS unit with a man who refused to take his medications. The incident occurred at 1391 Pocono Blvd., in Mount Pocono.Police identified the man as Anthony Thomas Agathangelon, 64, of that address. Police said Agathangelon pulled out a knife and attempted to stab and kill an EMS employee. Upon the arrival of officers Agathangelon was still armed with the knife in his right hand. He was ordered by police to drop the knife, which he did. He was then taken into custody without further incident.Police said they interviewed Agathangelon who stated that he intended to kill the EMS employee.Agathangelon has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and possessing an instrument of crime.Agathangelon was arraigned on the charges and committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of bail.
