ESU's Everett receives PSAC football honors

East Stroudsburg University senior linebacker Dakota Everett has been named the PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance against Mercyhurst on Saturday.

Everett, a graduate of Pleasant Valley, blocked Mercyhurst's first two extra point attempts, keeping the Warriors in front 13-12 early in the fourth quarter, before ESU ultimately fell 25-20 in its home opener at Eiler-Martin Stadium.Everett also led the ESU defense with nine tackles and added a forced fumble, one of five turnovers forced by the Warriors.He has blocked three extra points through the first three games, also blocking a PAT in the season-opening 20-16 win at Fairmont State, which helped ESU hold off the Falcons. The single-season school record for blocked kicks is six, set by Joe Menton (1995) and tied by Bryan Thomson (2012, 2014).A transfer from Division I FCS Stony Brook prior to the 2016 season, Everett played in all 11 games and made six starts last season. He had 58 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks and a pass breakup.He is second on the Warriors with 24 tackles and also has 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and fumble recovery this fall.Everett is one of three senior starting linebackers for the Warriors, along with Mike Wiand and Sekou Jones, his high school teammate at Pleasant Valley. The group has combined for 75 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries through three games.
