Saylorsburg woman loses home in fast-moving fire

A Saylorsburg woman lost everything when a fast-moving fire ripped through her home late Sunday morning.

Leon Clapper, fire chief for Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder Fire Co., said firefighters responded to the fire on Meixsell Valley Road in Ross Township around 11:30 a.m.Clapper said the fire was fully involved. The roof collapsed into the first floor, and the first floor was collapsing into the basement."It was a total loss when we got there," Clapper said. "We had to bring an excavator in to dig out the basement so we could put the fire out."Clapper said there were no injuries.The cause of the fire was unknown, he said.Polk Township, West End, and Kunkletown fire companies, along with West End Ambulance, assisted at the scene.Representatives from the American Red Cross were on scene.Michele Baehr, executive director for the American Red Cross of the Pocono Mountains, said two of their volunteer responders assisted the woman, and added the Red Cross will continue to follow up with any means that are necessary."We provided immediate shelter. A hotel was provided," Baehr said. "Food, clothing, medications, eyewear, any of the immediate basic needs, the caseworkers will continue to work with the client directly."
