Annual Supurban Memorial Run/Walk scheduled

Heroes are described as "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." That description certainly fits the late Thelma Urban's love and dedication to her students.

There are heroes among us, and when one passes on, their death affects the entire community.Urban was a language arts teacher in the Tamaqua Area School District at the time of her death in June 2015. She was also a wife, mother of two, daughter, sister and beloved friend. Her sudden death was a shock and a loss to the entire school community, so much so that fellow teachers and students created a 5K Run and 1-mile walk event in her memory. To her students and colleagues, Urban was a superhero, which is how they came up with a name for her memorial run. Determined to remember her passion for life and steadfast support of the students, they created the Thelma Urban Memorial Fund, establishing scholarships for the Urban children, Sean and Violet, as well as for a graduating senior furthering their education in a language arts related field. The 2017 edition of the Supurban Memorial Run/Walk will be held on Oct. 14 at the Tamaqua Sports Complex. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the action starting at 9 a.m. Preregistrations are now being accepted at

www.active.com.
