The Mauch Chunk Opera House continues its monthly free series of shows with an acoustic showcase on Sept. 28.

Through its rich, rustic sound, Toronto roots-rock outfit, The Young Novelists, showcases raw but elegant instrumentation and stacked multilayered harmonies. This is their first appearance in Jim Thorpe.Parker Gispert is the singer, guitarist, and lyricist for Athens, Georgia-based rock trio, The Whigs. Having appeared at the opera house with his band twice before, this is his first acoustic show. His unique solo shows blend performance with relevant storytelling.Hazleton-based singer-songwriter Shannon Marsyada combines retro mixed with a lyrical Annie Lennox-meets-Amy Winehouse sound.Tickets are "sold" for the free shows in order to keep counts and comply with local ordinances.
