Walker to review water extraction ordinance

Walker Township continues to review its water extraction ordinance.

The township's board of supervisors on Thursday furthered discussion on the matter as it looks at developing a new water extraction ordinance to be included in the Eastern Schuylkill Regional Planning Commission committee revisions to zoning ordinances.They are looking at the legality of lowering the gallon per day threshold set by the state Department of Environmental Protection, which would not require a permit.The township's planning commission will meet on Sept. 28, at which time it will review ordinances and take those recommendations to the Eastern Schuylkill Regional Planning Commission, who will make the final decision.The township's planning commission is continuing to work with the Eastern Schuylkill Regional Planning Commission to update its zoning and Subdivision and Land Development Ordinances, and are specifically looking at water extraction ordinances.Water extraction has been a hotly contested matter in neighboring West Penn Township.
