Eldred supervisors approve stop sign
After a very brief public meeting held during the Eldred Township supervisors regular monthly meeting, Eldred supervisors voted to place a stop sign at the intersections of Kuehner Drive and Christman and Greenzweig roads. The decision came after a number of residents made the request of the supervisors.
Also since in the last half year or so there have been numerous requests by residents for the township to lower speed limits on township roads the supervisors are considering adopting a plan for handling the requests.Currently the township has requests in for Turkey Hill Road, Kuehner Drive, Borger Road, Church Road and Chestnutridge Drive. Township roadmaster Keith Kuehner is currently reviewing the request and conducting road studies on all but Chestnutridge Drive, which is a state road.Since there have been so many requests for reductions in speed limits, Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen suggested that the supervisors consider a standard for reviewing the requests. It was agreed that the township will accept the requests and act on them every six months or when there are four or more requests made. This would allow time for the traffic study to be conducted and save money by allowing the township to advertise the changes at one time rather than piece by piece. In other business the supervisor approved a not-to-exceed amount of $8,000 for electronic office equipment replacement. The township flagpole was recently struck by lightning and much of the office equipment was damaged by the strike. The township needs to replace the items quickly to maintain operations. The approval was made with the proviso that the township try to recover as much of the money spent from the insurance company as allowed. The supervisors also voted to waive the township taxes on the old mill property now that the property has been deeded to it. This is the final lien needed to complete the takeover of the property by the township. The supervisors awarded the contract for anti-skid material to Hanson Aggregates at a price of $14.25 per ton FOB. Lehigh Asphalt was cheaper at $11.25 per ton FOB but the cost and the distance to the township to pick up from Lehigh Asphalt would have made it more costly per ton. Also approved on Wednesday evening was an agreement with the developers of Kuehner Fields. The agreement is to allow the developer to revise restricted covenants found in its deeds regarding the keeping of horses on lots within the subdivision. The township had no objections to the changes since they require lot owners to still obey the township's zoning ordinances. The supervisors opened bids for used equipment. A bid of $50.50 was accepted for the emergency generator. A bid of $9,000 was accepted for a 1995 Ford, F350 dump truck with plow and spreader. There was a bid in the amount of $5,505 for the 1968 John Deere grader. However the bid, as written by the bidder, transposed the year as 1986. The township secretary will confirm that the bidder knew it was actually a 1968 and not a 1986 piece of equipment. The township has set budget workshops for Sept. 26, Sept. 28 and Oct. 17 all at 3 p.m.
