Collecting for hurricane victims

The Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company and local residents stepped up and helped restore those whose lives were affected by disaster.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and the impending Hurricane Irma, Aquashicola firefighters are reaching out to the public and are asking for donations to send to the residents of Texas, Louisiana and Florida.Firefighters are placing a donation bucket at their Big Six stand at this weekend's community festival.Local residents wishing to make a donation to the hurricane disaster relief fund may do so by stopping by their stand and dropping a few bucks in the bucket.All funds collected throughout the firefighters' campaign will be divided between the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.Additionally, the fire company has opened its doors and will allow residents to drop off non perishable food, clothing, toiletries, personal hygiene goods and cleaning supplies at their station daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Donations will also be accepted on Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.
