Palmerton high school principal escorted from office

Palmerton Area High School principal Paula Husar was escorted from her office Thursday.

"At the conclusion of the school day today Mrs. Husar did surrender her district keys to a team of administrators and was escorted from the high school complex," board president Barry Scherer confirmed tonight.

"No other information will be released as this is a personnel matter," Scherer said.

A due process hearing regarding a three-day suspension of Husar was held in private in front of only the school board July 27.

According to multiple lawsuits filed by Husar against the district, the suspension was for an "alleged mishandling of a school bus incident."

While Husar wanted the hearing to be public, Palmerton Superintendent Scot Engler and school district lawyer John Audi objectedobjected based on privacy concerns for the student or students involved in the incident.

Lawyers for both sides argued their case behind closed doors in front of an out-of-town hearing officer, Christopher Lantz of Wellsboro.
