Man arrested on warrant, drug charges

(AP) - Hazleton police picked up a man on an arrest warrant for threatening to shoot and kill a woman last week in Tresckow and found a variety of illegal drugs on him Tuesday night, leading to additional charges.

City police charged John Allen, 35, of Tresckow, with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and turned him over to state police to answer charges of aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment in the Carbon County case.Allen was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Joseph Homanko, who set bail at $100,000. He was unable to post the bail and was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning.State police at Hazleton received a call from the Carbon County communications center that there was a woman screaming in the area of the unit block of East Maple Street in Tresckow on Aug. 23 around 11 p.m. The victim told troopers that Allen, also known as Boota, came to her home, produced a gun and said he was going to kill her, court papers state.She told him that she had to go to the bathroom and escaped from a second-floor window. She fell about 16 feet to the ground, called out for help and was assisted by neighbors, court papers state. A neighbor witnessed the victim fall. The victim was also yelling, "Boota don't hurt me. Boota don't hurt me. I didn't tell them anything," court papers state.The victim told police that she jumped because she truly believed that Allen was going to kill her.A neighbor saw Allen leave the home in a pickup and video surveillance shows him leaving the home four minutes after the 911 call came in, according to court papers.The victim suffered compound fractures to the right wrist, radius and ulna. Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest notified police that she underwent surgery for her injuries Aug. 25.Through their investigation, police learned that Boota was Allen and that he drove a red Dodge pickup, which is not registered to him. A felony warrant for his arrest was issued.Hazleton Police Chief Jerry Speziale said his officers saw the vehicle that Allen operates in the area of Second and Alter streets at 7:44 p.m. Tuesday while monitoring the city's cameras and conducted a traffic stop. Allen, who was taken into custody without incident, had 16.2 grams of crack/cocaine, 10 grams of crystal meth, Spice and heroin on him, Speziale said.City police will file the drug charges and fax them to prison, Speziale said. The vehicle that Allen was driving was towed at the request of state police and it will not be released, he said.
