A Jim Thorpe man accused of sexually assaulting a child will go to trial on the charges early next year.
Kevin William Gowrie, 43, was scheduled to enter a guilty plea in Carbon County Court of Common Pleas on Friday. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy on multiple occasions, and making threats to hurt him if he revealed the abuse. He faces 60 felony counts related to the sexual abuse of a child, including involuntary sexual deviate intercourse by forcible compulsion and aggravated indecent assault of a child. His attorney, Elliott Cohen, said that Gowrie believes he is innocent of the charges against him. Cohen said that he advised against the decision to go to trial, rather than accepting a plea deal from prosecutors.Police say there were at least four alleged assaults, which all occurred at Gowrie's home. Gowrie allegedly raped the victim and forced him to perform sex acts. He also threatened him through social media, allegedly writing, "I know where you live, I know where you sleep."Following Gowrie's not guilty plea, Assistant District Attorney Brian Gazo said that there will be additions to the charges against him before his trial.Cohen asked that the trial on the charges be scheduled in February.Gowrie is currently being held on $100,000 bail in the case, as well as $50,000 in another case where the victim was a 16-year-old male.
