Tamaqua sees smooth start to the new year

The first day of classes went off without a hitch Monday in the Tamaqua Area School District.

Superintendent Ray Kinder said the first day of school "went very well.""Students seemed happy coming into school," Kinder said. "The faculty and staff were eager to get to know their pupils."Kinder said there were no real glitches to speak of."A few minor things tend to come up, but nothing out of the ordinary occurred," he said. "It is often difficult for students who may be transitioning between buildings to find their bus quickly, but we work with them to try and make it as seamless as possible."On the menu were French toast sticks, sausage, Tater Tots and juice.Kinder said there were about 2,100 students enrolled in the district; of those, about 152 kindergartners."We wish to welcome our students and families back to school, and will do our best to make this school year the best it can be," he said.
