Breaking and entering report leads to drug charges

Two people were charged after a reported breaking and entering call in Tamaqua on Aug. 25.

Police were called toa Catawissa Street residence at 7:40 a.m. after a woman reported there was a man trying to kick in her rear door.As officers arrived, they found Sarah A. Bensinger, 26, walking away from the scene at a rapid pace. She was stopped and asked about what was happening at her former residence. She told the officer there was a fight at the house, so she left. She was told to wait on the sidewalk and the officer would be back to speak with her.At the house the resident said Kyle Carter, 26, who is homeless, kicked in the rear door and assaulted Bensinger. He fled before police arrived.Bensinger had left the area and was located a few minutes later near the railroad tracks by Spruce Street. When asked why she left, she answered that she didn't hear the officer tell her to stay.Due to past contact the officer asked if she had any drugs or syringes in the pack back she was carrying. Bensinger said yes and officers recovered nine syringes, Xanax tablets, lorazepam tablets, a spoon and 13 baggies with suspected heroin residue.She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.Carter faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct.
