Drugs found after crash

A New Jersey man faces charges after an accident on Aug. 17 that ended with two cars stuck together.

When officers arrived at the intersection of North Elizabeth and East Union streets in Tamaqua at 11:50 p.m. they found a black Volkswagen Rabbit pinned against a silver Chevrolet Impala. The driver of the VW was identified as Connor Mahan, 22, of Middletown. He appeared to be dazed and confused, first telling police he and a buddy were meeting up to play poker and he somehow ran into his friend's car. However, the Chevrolet actually is owned by a local resident and had been legally parked well before the crash.Mahan then said he was trying to park his car and somehow ran up over the curb and down the sidewalk. He refused medical treatment, but continued to appear disoriented to the point that officers felt a field sobriety test couldn't be performed. They transported him to St. Luke's Miners campus in Coaldale for blood tests after finding five Xanax pills in a cigarette case.Charges are pending the results of those tests.
