Back to School: A look at Pleasant Valley School District

New Superintendent David Piperato discussed the upcoming year.

Who’s newIn addition to Piperato, most of the administrative staff at the high school is new. Matthew Triolo is principal and Angela Borealo and David Sodl Jr. are new assistant principals.“I was present during their opening day faculty meeting yesterday (at the high school) and the changes they are proposing were well-received by the teachers,” said Piperato. “They are looking to take the next step in creating a school dedicated to putting students first.Pleasant Valley Elementary will have co-principals this year while Principal Erica Greer is out on sabbatical. At the helm will be Roger Pomposello and Barbara Bradley.Pleasant Valley Middle School Principal Rocco Seiler is looking forward to another outstanding year.Seiler’s team is already working on its mini-Thon goals as the All Sports Club hosted a luncheon for faculty this week and charged the diners $10 each. All of the money was than donated to the Four Diamonds Fund.Intermediate school Principal Cassandra Herr is also getting ready for the school year and already hosted a “Meet your teacher night.”ChallengesPiperato sees each school’s greatest challenge for this year as always meeting every student’s individual needs.“We cannot treat students with a one-size-fits-all approach,” Piperato said. “The goal of personalized instruction is extremely difficult to meet each day.”Piperato says that he is most looking forward to getting to know the students and the staff. He says that to him the students and the staff will always take priority.First dayWith the football season already underway and the band practicing it would seem like the first day of school is a mere formality at Pleasant Valley High School.Triolo and his new team held an orientation this week for new students. The administrative staff took it upon themselves to personally take the new students on a tour of the building.“This not only gave them an opportunity to see the building but to really get to know the staff,” Triolo said. “This way on the first day of school, they are going to see familiar faces and it will help take away some of the nerves.”Triolo also said that on the first day freshman students will be going directly from their buses to the auditorium where they will be welcomed, meet their teachers and go to the homerooms as a group.— Judy Dolgos-Kramer
