Derek Joyce of the Carbon Monarchs was named the Lehigh Valley Legion's Player of the Year for this past season.

Joyce played in 19 games for the Monarchs and hit .463. The recent graduate of Jim Thorpe was 31-for-67 at the plate with 18 extra-base hit - 14 doubles, two triples, and two homers. He knocked in 17 runs while scoring 22 times.A participant in the Legion All-Star Game at Reading, Joyce helped the Monarchs reach the LVL's championship game against South Parkland.Joyce will continue his baseball career at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
