A child was hit by a car and then a man was arrested for shooting at the striking vehicle in a bizarre incident in Monroe County on Saturday.
Pocono Mountain Regional police said at 5:06 p.m. they were dispatched toHellers Lane in Long Pond, Tunkhannock Township, for a report of a female juvenile being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle.The investigation revealed that the driver of the vehiclehad been assaulted by Joseph Rodriguez, 37, of the Long Pond address. After assaulting the driver, Rodriguez went to his home to retrieve a firearm. He then fired multiple shots into the man's vehicle. No one was struck with any of the gunfire, police said.Rodriguez was placed under arrest and charged with persons not to possess a firearm (felony two), instruments of a crime and terroristic threats (both misdemeanor ones), recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and criminal mischief, all misdemeanor twos.The young girl was flown by medical helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Police said her injuries were not serious and she was expected to be released from the hospital in a day.The police report did not indicate if Rodriguez was related to the girl who was struck.
