An Effort man admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday to assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He was one of five defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Kidder incidentRichard H. Curry, 31, pleaded to one count of simple assault for an incident on June 26 along Laurel Woods Drive, Lake Harmony, Kidder Township.Township police responded to the area for a report of a domestic incident. On scene officers learned that Curry had pushed the victim to the ground causing injuries, including bleeding, which was observed by the officers.Curry denied striking the girl and pushing her to the ground. He claimed she sustained the injuries when he pulled her from her vehicle. Matika deferred sentencing as the victim, who was present, said she had medical bills for treatment she had received and continues to receive. Matika said sentencing will occur after the victim gets all her medical bills to the district attorney's office.Flees policeJerrad Early Tait, 31, of Christiana, Tennessee, pleaded to one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police and two motor vehicle summary offenses.He was arrested on Sept. 4, 2016, at Hickory Run State Park in Lake Harmony. Tait and a female companion were ordered to leave the park after committing multiple violations of park rules. As he left the area park rangers observed him going back to a campsite that he was told to leave.A high-speed chase ensued that went onto Route 534 in Kidder Township, during which he almost struck another vehicle. He was eventually stopped and taken into custody.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service. On the two summary offenses he was fined a total of $50 and costs.Other pleasRandy M. Kraus, 34, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of harassment. He admitted making threatening phone calls to a female borough resident on or about Nov. 29, 2016. A summary offense, Matika imposed a fine of $200 and costs.Heather Ann Smith, 35, of Boyertown, Berks County, pleaded to one count of theft of misplaced property. She was charged by Lansford police with stealing a purse from a shopping cart at Boyer's Market, West Bertsch Street, on April 26, 2015. There is a co-defendant in the case.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution of $315.25, one-half the total, and have no contact with the victim.Robert Borelli, 50, of Blakeslee, pleaded to one count of fraud/altered/forged/counterfeit registration. He was arrested on May 10 by Kidder Township police along Route 940 following a traffic stop. He had a registration plate on his vehicle that was issued to another vehicle. Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
