Driver flees, then caught for DUI

A Monroe County driver fled police, went into his home, but was later taken into custody and charged with multiple counts.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident began at 2:53 a.m. on Aug. 6 as officers observed a Ford pickup proceed through a posted stop sign at Oak Street and Center Avenue in Mount Pocono at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then proceeded through a second stop sigh at Oak Street and Fairview Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the truck but the driver accelerated. A pursuit began and continued until the truck pulled into a driveway at 1 Heath Lane. The driver exited the truck and fled toward the residence while being told to stop and remain in his vehicle by officers.After backup officers arrived, police went to the front door and spoke with Norbett Jankowski, 20, of that address. He admitted driving the pickup and said he was scared so he ran. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.He was placed under arrest and taken into custody. He was charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony three; reckless driving; two stop sign violations; turn signal violations; and underage drinking. He was arraigned before on-call district Judge Michael R. Muth, of East Stroudsburg with bail set at $3,000.
