A Northern Lehigh School District teacher has resigned amid charges of child pornography.
On a unanimous vote, the school board on Monday accepted the resignation of Jonathan DeFrain, a social studies teacher at the high school.DeFrain, 37, of the 300 block of Spruce Street, Walnutport, is charged with counts of sexual abuse of children, as well as counts of criminal use of communication facility and possession of obscene and other sexual materials and performances.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Patrick Dawe of the Pennsylvania State Police Department:Police received a report that several files, perceived as child pornography, were sent over yahoo.com.Social media sites and Cloud services are required by law to send notification if they discover that one of their customers is sending or receiving child pornography.At 11:35 a.m. Aug. 3, Dawe went to DeFrain's residence and explained why he was there to see him.DeFrain immediately admitted to downloading, possessing and distributing child pornography, and voluntarily went up to his guest room and retrieved a laptop computer and two thumb drives that all contained child pornography.Dawe seized five items from DeFrain's residence, at least three of which contained images of child pornography.DeFrain is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 before District Judge Robert Hawke of Northampton.He was released after posting 10 percent of $40,000 bail.
