Tamaqua traffic stop results in several traffic, drug charges

A traffic stop in Tamaqua on Aug. 1 landed a borough man in prison thanks to multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. He also faces additional charges related to the traffic stop.

An officer was on patrol at 2:23 a.m. when a silver Pontiac came to his attention for several traffic violations.When the Pontiac was stopped on Route 209 at the eastern edge of town, the driver was identified as Angelo Maldonado, 27, who has no known permanent address.The officer checked and learned there were several warrants for Maldonado, whose driver's license is suspended.Maldonado and the car were searched with numerous items being confiscated. They included two knives, three grinders, a black bungee cord, a spoon, three pipes, cotton swabs, a scale, a mirror with residue, three bags of a white crystal like substance, two bags filled with green vegetable matter and a small white bag.Maldonado was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on the warrants.He also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and other traffic violations.
