The Jim Thorpe school board on Monday took action on personnel matters.

Special education teacher Nancy Smith was approved for retirement, effective Aug. 7, 2017.Paraprofessional Bobbie Lou Hughes was approved for resignation, effective July 18, 2017.Paraprofessional Maria Miller was approved for resignation, effective July 31, 2017.The following paraprofessionals were approved for employment at a rate of $12 per hour: Maxine Gaffney (Penn-Kidder), Ana Esther Figueroa-Rios (districtwide ESL), Nicole Murphy (Penn-Kidder), Tiffany McCullion (Penn-Kidder 1 to 1), Kayla Zurawa (high school 1 to 1), and Brian O'Donnell (high school ES).Samantha George was approved as a long-term substitute for reading and language arts, pending receipt of clearances, at a rate of $44,170.Melissa Fox Wasko was approved as a long-term substitute for elementary education, pending receipt of clearances, at a rate of $45,420.Brianna Oswald was approved as a special-education teacher, pending receipt of clearances, at a rate of $46,670.Amy Serfass was approved as a math teacher, pending receipt of clearances, at a rate of $45,170.Kerriann Smith was approved as a part-time custodian to a full-time custodian position at $12 per hour, retroactive to July 10, 2017.A motion to post a position for a middle level math and science teacher was approved.
