Four first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.The four were placed on driving under the influence charges and for a year.Kristin Mary Bechtel, 24, of Bath, was arrested on April 8 by Lehighton police along Bridge Street. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC.She was assessed $500 for the cost of the program, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 30 days.William Philip Cashmere, 35, of Washington, New Jersey, was arrested on July 19, 2014, by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Palmerton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $650, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Kyle Franklin Kemp, 30, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 12 along Route 443 by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Kenion Anthony Stewart, 23, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Jan. 22 by Kidder Township police along Route 534. No test result was available.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program, and follow any recommendations of their blood and alcohol evaluation.
